Why suspected thugs attacked Kaduna lawmakers – El-Rufai
Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has said that attacks on the Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) office by suspected thugs on 30th July, 2017 was because of the presence of some Federal lawmakers from the state.
Speaking through his Special Adviser (Political), Hon Uba Sani, the governor said some lawmakers have not been performing since they were sworn into office as legislators, hence, thugs were irked seeing them gathered to address political issues.
Justifying the attack, Uba who explained in an interview he anchored in Hausa on the local Nagarta Radio in Kaduna on Friday said: “The attack was appropriate, it’s part of politics.”
On why they attacked journalists, he said: “because journalists were their hosts.”
Senators Shehu Sani (Kaduna Central), Suleiman Hunkuyi (Kaduna North), and other House of Representatives members from the state were to address the press in protest when the attack occurred.
The lawmakers alleged that governor El’Rufai undemocratically compiled names of party officers of the state APC and single-handedly submitted the list to the National headquarters.
