Hospital opens charity account for motherless quadruplets
The Chief Medical Director, General Hospital, Malumfashi, Katsina, Dr. AbdulHamed Abdullahi, says the hospital management has opened a bank account to collect monetary donations for a set of quadruplets whose mother died four days after childbirth.
The 38-year-old mother, Gaje Zubairu, died on Sunday after being delivered of quadruplets last Thursday through a caesarian section.
One of the quadruplets had died in the evening of the delivery day.
The CMD, Abdullahi, told journalists in Katsina on Tuesday that the three surviving babies, whose mother had since been buried, had returned to the hospital for proper medical care and monitoring by doctors.
Abdullahi said the babies would remain in the hospital till they were strong enough to be discharged.
He added that plans had been made to open a bank account into which well-meaning Nigerians could make monetary donations towards the babies’ upkeep.
The CMD spoke shortly after the wife of the Katsina State Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Masari, visited the hospital on Tuesday.
Abdullahi said, “The babies will be with us at the hospital for monitoring. They will be here until they are strong enough and fortunately enough well-wishers and sympathisers have been donating both cash and necessary items for their upkeep.
“We just held a meeting with the family’s representatives on the need to open an account for the babies and this we are going to do right away, today (Tuesday), to ensure that nobody tampers with the money donated for the babies by kind-hearted Nigerians.”
Asked when the babies are likely to be discharged and released to the family, the CMD said, “For now, I cannot say this is the definite time that the babies will be released to the family but what I know is that they will be strong enough before we release them. Members of their family are allowed to visit them at the hospital.”
Northern City News learnt that the governor’s wife donated N50,000 cash and food items for the upkeep of the babies.
She told journalists that she had told the hospital’s management not to hesitate to contact her anytime for further assistance.
She said, “I have told the hospital management that my doors are open anytime they need anything for the babies.
“It is unfortunate that their mother died but we cannot query God. I can assure you that I will see that the babies don’t suffer, insha Allah. And I will monitor their growth and development.”
It was also learnt that the Emir of Katsina, Dr. Abdulmumin Usman, had also made a donation of N100,000 for the upkeep of the babies.
